The leading organization of international legal experts, bar associations and legal associations. Founded in 1947, shortly after the creation of the United Nations, with the goal of protecting and promoting the rule of law worldwide, the IBA was born out of the belief that an organization of the world's bar associations could promote global stability and peace through the administration of justice. In the 75 years since its creation, the organization has evolved from an association consisting exclusively of bar associations and legal associations to one that includes individual international lawyers and entire law firms. The current membership includes more than 80,000 international lawyers from most of the world's leading law firms and about 190 lawyers and legal associations from more than 170 countries.
The IBA has significant expertise in assisting the global legal community, and through its global membership, influences the development of international law reform and shapes the future of the legal profession around the world.
